Comitia Americana Medals Henry Lee

Lee was the only recipient of a Congressional medal for actions in the American Revolution who ranked below a General. Major Lee was the leader of a small cavalry force which came to be known as “Lee’s Legion.” Lee and his cavalry men conducted a small raid on the Fort of Paulus Hook in 1779 using the “only bayonets” tactic that had proved so vital at Stony Point. Lee and his men took 158 prisoners and 50 British casualties while suffering only 20 American casualties. Lee was awarded his medal both for his success in leading the raid, but also his immensely humane treatment of prisoners.
