- Landscape sketch showing a view of a rocky stream in a dense woodland scene, likely somewhere in New York or New England. In the foreground at center, water rushes between two semi-submerged boulders and becomes white with bubbles as it moves through a small rapid. Rocky, rugged banks hem in the stream at left and right. In the middle distance at center, the stream curves to the left and encounters a group of stones--one of which is brightly illuminated. Various trees are visible on the banks at left and right, while a loosely rendered brown hillside comprises the background.
