- Description
- Landscape study of winter scene at Church's farm in Hudson, New York. Slopes in foreground mostly covered in snow, with patches of dirt and grass visible. In midle distance, a copse of dark trees, rendered in brown, veils the orange light reflected off of a pond beyond the grove at center. Mountainous terrain extends toward the indefinite horizon. Above, the setting sun illumates the edges of an otherwise grey cloud in bright hues of yellow and orange. The hazy atmosphere below glows due to the sun's light, which is partially blocked at left producing a column of shadow. Muted blue of the twilight sky visible along upper margin.
