Volunteers Wanted! Poster
Object Details
- Description
- Most Americans had a romantic image of war not yet dashed by the harsh realities of life in squalid camps and death on dismal battlefields. Whether to repel an invasion, protect the homeland, or preserve the Constitution, the Confederate and Union volunteers of 1861 felt compelled to enlist to fulfill a duty to themselves and their country.
