The Voice of the Silence
Object Details
- Reich, Rikki
- Description
- Rikki Reich initially moved to New York City in 1989, and then moved to Jersey City. Her collection of September 11 photographs are all silver gelatin prints shot from a Nikon FM Manual Camera. The silver gelatin process adds a grain to the photograph that enhances the texture of the smoke and water. Thus giving the image another dimension. Reich now has her own gallery in Jersey City called “The Studio”.
- Rikki Reich’s “The Voice of Silence” series portrays the horrors of September 11 from the Jersey side of the Hudson. In this image, one lone onlooker watches as the city is enveloped in the smoke from the towers. Tower 1 has already fallen, and Tower 2 has smoke billowing out of the top of it. Reich’s perspective shows the panoramic tragedy as onlookers watch one of America’s greatest cities seemingly disappear.
