- The diary documents Waldo Shmitt's participation in the United States Navy Expedition to the Galapagos Islands, 1941. Entries are dated. Subject matter includes descriptions of islands (Malpelo), types and sizes of fish caught, air and water temperatures, daily activities with expedition participants, sometimes times day long data (winds, temp, time anchoring, underway, sometimes destinations, etc), collecting trips ashore, observed wildlife, supplies used,quantities of specimens, Locations include the vicinity of Panama, Isla de Malpelo, Villamil and the Galapagos Islands [Archipiélago de Colón].
