This mythological composition of a great genius was performed by Paolo, by order of Marquis Caleagnini, of Verona, to solemnize the triumph of his love for a celebrated lady of his time. Shortly afterwards, the same lady, forsaken by the inconstant marquis, ordered Paolo to represent in a picture the despair of Dido, which he did with a masterly skill, as it is represented in No. 52.
