- Small case with a gilt inscription that reads "FABT D'INSTS DE CHIRURGIE / CHARRIER / 6 Rue de l'Ecole de Medecin." The contents include two steel lancets, one marked "Charrier"; 4 bone-handled lancets marked "Rodier A Paris"; one bone-handled lancet marked "B. S. Codman & Co., Boston"; one scissors marked "Charrier A Paris"; one stiletto; one rectal director; two irrigating tubes; six surgical needles; one coil of horsehair; one coil of wire; three coils of heavy cotton thread; and two coils of fine silk thread. This case was used by Dr. Jonathan S. Prout (1833-1928), a Medical Officer who served the 26th Missouri Infantry, U.S. Army, during the Civil War.
