- Associated printed email from JoAllyn Archambault to Candace Greene, Aug. 1, 2008: Subject: red and tan star quilt. This star quilt was probably made by Frieda Goodsell [Freda Theresa Mesteth Goodsell, 1929 - 2018, Oglala Lakota] of Custer, SD, maternal aunt of Arthur Amiotte, Pine Ridge Lakota artist and author. In June, 1991, Arthur Amiotte sponsored a sun dance in the National Park right outside of Custer. Arthur thought it was the first sun dance actually held in the Black Hills in decades. This star quilt was given to Sturtevant during Art Amiotte's giveaway, probably on the last day of the sun dance. Frieda [sic, should be Freda] is a well known quilt maker and this looks like her work, both in the color choices made for the top and the quilting patterns on the surface.
