- Summary
- Figure of a union soldier standing on a tall granite shaft. He wears a uniform consisting of a long belted jacket and a cap with a visor. The mustached figure holds a flag in his proper left hand and a sword in his proper right hand. The shaft is decorated with a band of polished stars. Each face has an arched gable. In the front gable is a raised Seal of Connecticut, in the north an anchor, west a wreath, and south a crossed cannon. Polished bands of stone set off the bottom and top of the tapering shaft. The front face of the shaft bears a raised cross. The capital of the shaft, on the front, is composed of an eagle framed by long volutes. The capital faces on the other three sides are the shield of the United States.
