- An analysis of fourteen articles of Zulu beadwork from the Msinga area in Natal revealed a particular color convention or juxtaposition of colored beads. Having no writing by which messages could be recorded, the Zulu developed a form of symbolism in their beadwork, in the choice of colors as well as in color combinations, which encodes messages.
