- This is a brochure to accompany a retrospective exhibition of sculpture by Lamidi Fakeye, held at the Space Gallery, Knauss Hall, Western Michigan University, September 15-October 2, 1987. Includes a brief but thorough biographical sketch of Lamidi Fakeye by Bruce Haight in which Fakeye is characterized as "a man of paradox" who successfully bridges several worlds.
- Coming from a family of wood sculptors, working in a Christian workshop, being a Muslim, and moving in an international world of art, Fakeye "has transformed Yoruba wood-carving without abandoning tradition". Fakeye, in his contribution, "Recent works by Lamidi O. Fakeye: the sculptor's interpretation", interprets the six sculptures, dating from 1983 to 1987, illustrated here in color. Four relate to the Yoruba orisha, one is "mother of twins", and the sixth is "warrior on horseback with captives", referring to nineteenth-century Yoruba warfare.
