- Summary
- A World War I memorial fountain sculpture comprised of a bronze prow of a ship (the Boat of America) emerging from a large wall behind it. The ship bears a personification of Columbia (the Spirit of Independence), holding aloft two torches (the Flame of Freedom) and flanked by two military figures (Army on the proper left; Navy on the proper right). Ahead of this arrangement are three plunging, finned sea-horses (symbolizing mob hysteria), only the two outer ones mounted by merman (man's discipline).
