- This Lunar Rocket toy built by Park Plastics allowed its purchaser to shoot the rocket into the air using water as the propellant. Toys like this demonstrated reactive motion, providing a fun and relatively safe way of learning about the physical principles of rocket flight. For some people, including Microsoft co-founder and SpaceShip One funder Paul Allen, water- and air-propelled rockets like this one were the first step in their childhood experimentation with toy rockets. As Allen has recalled, the limitations of toys like this one, which could only reach 100 feet in the air, led him to experiment with chemical rocket kits and more sophisticated flying rocket models.
