Object Details
- Summary
- This is the 3.5-in. Antitank Rocket, or Modern Bazooka rocket. It weighs nine pounds loaded, with two pounds of payload, and has a range of 0.25 miles against tanks. It is basically an enlarged Bazooka with new propellant and other features.
- The original Bazooka was one of the most famous U.S. weapons of World War II. Like its forebear, the 3.5-in. version is fired from a light-weight tube-type launcher carried on the back of one infantryman. The Bazooka was so-named after a musical instrument of a comedian of World War II, Bob Burns. This object was transferred to the Smithsonian from the National Armed Foces Museum Advisory Board.
