- Glass bottle with sealed cork stopper and red and white paper label. Made by Peggy Page Laboratories of Cleveland, Ohio. Text on label reads in part: "Relieves chafing, sunburn or any irritation caused by outdoor exposure, at the same time acting as a Whitener. Soothing and refreshing, its use leaves the skin smooth, white and velvety. Keeps hands soft and white in performance of household duties. Excellent base for face powder."
- This product was advertised from about 1926 to 1931, and sold for 75 cents or less when on sale. The Peggy Page Beauty Aids line of products included astringent, lotion, brilliantine, cleansing cream, cuticle remover, cold cream, face powder, hair wash, muscle oil, rouge, pore cream, vanishing cream, skin food, and whitening balm.
- This object is one of over 700 items from Glaser’s Drug Store of Sayre, Pennsylvania. In 1921, Simon Glaser (1860-1936), an immigrant from Russian Poland, established the drug store at 121 West Packer Avenue in Sayre, PA. His son, Sidney Glaser (1899-1992), soon joined him in the business and continued to operate the store until 1961. After retiring, Sidney Glaser retained thousands of products dating from the 1920s – 1960s, including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, personal care products, and vitamins, and donated many of them to the Smithsonian in 1985.
