- When Senator John F. Kennedy began laying the groundwork for a 1960 presidential bid, his father Joseph P. Kennedy engaged Jacques Lowe to help craft his son’s public image. Lowe became the younger Kennedy’s full-time campaign photographer, and after JFK’s election, he documented the Kennedy administration as the president’s personal photographer until 1962. Lowe took this Kennedy family portrait in 1958.
- Kennedy’s young children were often photographed in the White House. Candid photos of Caroline and John Jr. playing hide-and-seek in the Oval Office and attending classes in the Solarium captured public attention, contributing to President Kennedy’s youthful, family-focused image.
