- FROM CARD: "THE SUN DANCE: BUILDING THE MEDICINE LODGE. THIS REPRESENTS THE BUILDING OF THE MEDICINE LODGE AND THE DECORATION OF THE CENTER POLE, AND THE BRINGING IN OF THE UPRIGHTS AND LEAFY COTTONWOOD BRANCHES BY THE WOMEN, ESCORTED BY WARRIORS BEATING HAND DRUMS, WHILE ALL SING CHANTS IN UNISON. IN THE FOREGROUND ARE TWO WARRIORS RIDING WITH THEIR SWEETHEARTS MOUNTED BEHIND THEM. ON THE COMPLETION OF THE MEDICINE LODGE A LONG PROCESSION OF WARRIORS AND YOUNG WOMEN, MOUNTED THUS IN PAIRS, RODE SLOWLY AROUND THE ENTIRE CAMP CIRCLE SINGING CHANTS UNTIL AFTER SUNDOWN. LENT TO THE MINNEAPOLIS INSTITUTE OF ARTS, 8-13-1992 LOAN RETURNED AUG 26, 1993."
- Depicting bringing in the uprights and leafy cottonwood branches for construction of the Medicine Lodge. Painted by Hangun. 56" (142 cm). Records: The Sun Dance: Building the Medicine Lodge. This represents the building of the Medicine Lodge and the decoration of the center pole, and the bringing in of the uprights and leafy cottonwood branches by the women, escorted by warriors beating hand drums while all sing chants in unison. In the foreground are two warriors riding with their sweethearts mounted behind them. On the completion of the Medicine Lodge a long procession of warriors and young women, mounted thus in pairs, rode slowly around the entire camp circle singing chants until after sundown. (A).
