Mornings With Will

- Caption
- Printmaker Lou Stovall created this image during a public demonstration of his meticulous silk-screening process. He made a print of each color layer, 52 in all, as he worked towards completing the final image. The process documents Stovall’s skill as a printmaker and his role as an educator in the community.
- The form and subject of the print are characteristic of much of Stovall’s work, while the title suggests that Stovall may have been inspired by time spent with his son, Will. He has explained his preference for the tandem (circular) form because it evokes spirituality and the “cyclical state of nature.” Here, the form complements the tranquil, natural scene: a bright blue stream comes down a small green hill to pool in the valley. Stovall creates his landscapes from his own imagination, describing this work as a “perfect world that would be nice to be in so I made [it] from my own thoughts.”
