- This is a 1:100 scale model of the Ariane 3 rocket. These were the third rocket built by the European Space Agency (ESA), a consortium of 11 Western European nations organized in 1974. A three-stage rocket using strap-on boosters, the Ariane 3 first launched a payload into orbit in August 1984. A total of 11 Ariane 3s launched payloads into space before being replaced by the improved Ariane 4. Arianespace built this model and donated it to NASM in 1985.
