- This is a model of unknown scale of the U.S. Navy Standard missile (SM). SM-1s and SM-2s, initially built by General Dynamics, have conventional warheads. The first SM-1 was deployed in 1970, had a range of 19 miles, and was primarily an anti-aircraft missile. The first SM-2 entered service in 1981 and had a range of over 45 miles, but it could be used against aircraft, anti-ship missiles, or surface targets. Later versions have an even longer range. SM-3s, made by Raytheon and initially deployed in 2004, carry the Lightweight Exoatmospheric Projectile Kinetic Warhead to destroy enemy theater ballistic missiles by physical impact.
