On second photo mount label, typed: "Mercury amusing himself." Portland Place, St. Louis, Mo. Bronze, 9 feet high. Illustrates a Roman story:- One day the priest of Apollo had left the Temple before the sacrifice was consumed, seeing which the eagle of Jupiter swooped down and began to devour the sacred victim; Mercury followed and teased him with his caduceus which the eagle resisted with great cries and blows of his wing.
