- Although possibly better known by its later luxury automobiles, Maybach Motorenbau G.m.b.H. of Friedrichshafen, German was originally the engine building subsidiary of the German Zeppelin Company (Luftschiffbau Zeppelin G.m.b.H.).
- Built between 1909 and 1913 specifically for airships, this engine is believed to be a Maybach Model AZ. Engines like it powered airships built by Zeppelin, Schutte-Lanz, Parseval, and Gross. This engine was modified in the 1920s to adapt it to marine use.
