Object Details
- Artist
- Aaron J. Goodelman, born Ataki, Russia 1890-died New York City 1978
- Luce Center Label
- Aaron Goodelman created many sculptures that celebrated manual labor. He criticized artists who used traditional subjects, like nude figures in static poses, and encouraged his students to express their opinions through their work. Sculptures such as Man with Wheelbarrow immortalized the simple and often overlooked acts of the working man.
- Luce Object Quote
- “Sculpture is a language, and . . . if I talk I want people to know I am not just talking in the wind but I have something vital to state.” Artist’s statement
