- Description
- This tranquil view of the bluff at Kondai shows figures observing the ships sailing on the Tone River (today is known as the Edogawa.) The scenic view from this location is why it once played many vital roles in military defense. This location was the site for many battle scenes and became famous to the people of Edo. It became memorialized in historical literature written by Takizawa Bakin (1767-1848.) The outline of the red leaves on the trees and the overall calmness is a deceptive scene Hiroshige depicts.
