- [Portrait of Joseph Pennell] by Pirie Macdonald is a photogravure carbon print from 1922. The subject of the image is a 3/4 profile portrait of a man with a beard wearing a three-piece suit. The lower right hand corner of the image is stamped with white pigment with the inscription "Pirie MacDonald Photographer of Men New York." The back of the matte is stamped in gold pigment with a list of prizes awarded to Pirie MacDonald followed by his name and address. Joseph Pennell (July 4, 1857- April 23, 1926) was an American lithographer, etcher, illustrator and author. His chief distinction is his biography of fellow artist James McNeill Whistler and his illustrations for the Liberty Loans campaign posters.
