- Description
- Study for the finished painting, "Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives." In the foreground, the nearby slope of the mount is shown with three olives trees and a figure sitting on a stone at lower left. In the middle distance, across the Valley of Jesophat, the city of Jerusalem is prominently shown. Beyond the city walls, the Dome of the Rock is notably visible atop the al-Aqsa Mosque and Temple Mount. Behind, the numerous roofs of city buildings extend to the horizon and reflect the sun's glow. Above, thick, billowing clouds part at center, allowing the sun's light to cascade over the city.
