- Description
- Unusual mercury-in-glass thermometer with a cylindrical bulb and a flat tube. Inscriptions read “J. HICKS LONDON” and “PATENT EXPRESS.” This thermometer is only 4 inches long. The scale extends from 95 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit, divided in fifths. The glass tube holding the mercury expands slightly just above the bulb. The back of the scale is red. The Taylor Instrument Companies gave this to the Smithsonian in 1923.
