- Herbert Eugene Ives (1882-1953), physicist and Director of Electro-Optical Research, Bell Laboratories, was a pioneer in the development of television and facsimile technologies. The caption to this 1928 photograph says that he "directed the development of the television process that was such an important achievement of 1927, and who will continue his researches in 1928 towards new wonders."
