- Handmade wooden skateboard deck with inlaid design down the center. The donor, Michael Savage, bought this board for five dollars when he was 8 or 9 years old, from "the old man that lived down the street," in Redondo Beach, California. According to the donor, the maker of the board made custom surfboards and would occasionally make a skateboard for the neighborhood kids. The donor does not have the wheels for the board but said they were originally roller skate wheels that he attached to the board but then he replaced those with the first wheels made specifically for skateboards (most likely a clay composite). It was still the responsibility of the skater to attach the wheels to the board and it was not until a few years later that manufactured boards were sold as a complete setup. The other set of holes were made later as he used it as a shelf. Unfortunately there are no photos of the donor riding the board.
