EPILEPT NIGR
Object Details
- Description
- The label of this bottle is marked with the alchemical symbol for powder and EPILEPT NIGR. The jar would have contained black epileptic powder containing dictamnus, (known as dittany, burning bush, and gas plant), and paeonia flowers, valerian root, and deer antlers. The powder was used as an antiepileptic to prevent seizures.
- This bottle is a blown and molded square–shaped jar with a wide mouth and rounded shoulders. The closure is a round wood and cork lid that has been stained brown. The lid is probably not original to the jar. The baked enamel label is a white oval shield framed by a stylized wreath of blue leaves and red and yellow flowers.
