- Description
- This blue narrow ruled white paper single subject notebook contains documentation related to the Amdahl 5890 computer. There are seventy-three pages of notes. Most of the notes are on one side of the page with some exceptions. Donor's description of the book: "...the last Amdahl machine for which I have received training was the Amdahl 5890. The 5890 is perhaps the most elegantly designed mainframe from the days of big iron. I have a single spiral notebook containing my hand-written notes completely describing the operation and maintenance of the Amdahl 5890. "
- According to the notes, the Amdahl 5890 contains two closely coupled processors, a MSU, System Controller, and a /IO subsystem consisting of IOPs, IHs, and external unit. The 5890 series launched in 1985 and sold well that helped Amdahl's earnings.
- The donor worked for Amdahl Corporation from 1980 to 1988. He served primarily as a software systems engineer in Customer Support & Services but was also hardware cross-trained.
