- Conserving Kenya's Coast, One Turtle at a Time
- Description
- Sea turtles worldwide face endangerment due to pollution, poachers, fishing bycatch, beachfront development, and much more. Off the coast of Kenya, the Lamu Marine Conservation Trust (LAMCOT) works to mitigate these threats through educational programs and incentives for fishermen. LAMCOT project coordinator Salim Hohamed Atwaa will join us on the National Mall this summer to represent the organization and other conservation efforts in the Kenya: Mambo Poa program at the 2014 Smithsonian Folklife Festival.
