Colorado Rockies (NHL)
Object Details
- Description
- The Colorado Rockies played in the National Hockey League from 1976-1982. The team originated as the Kansas City Scouts, an NHL expansion franchise that played two seasons before relocating to Denver. The Rockies are perhaps best known for having been coached by future television personality Don Cherry, who led the team to a dismal 19-78-13 record in the 1979-1980 season. The other years were not much more successful, in five years the Rockies had a 113-281 win-loss record with only one playoff appearence. In 1982 the team moved once again, heading East to become the New Jersey Devils.
- In 1993 a team known as the Colorado Rockies began play in Major League Baseball. The NHL returned to Denver in 1995, with the Quebec Nordiques moving to the "Mile High City" to become the Colorado Avalanche.
