Coffee Maker

National Museum of American History

Object Details

Description
Two-part, 8-cup, stovetop drip coffee maker, consisting of a cylindrical water reservoir at top, marked with 4-, 6- and 8-cup fill lines, that has an integral, narrower diameter, finely perforated filter extending from its bottom that fits inside the tapered cylindrical coffeepot with flared base and straight, angled, conical spout below. Both parts have two pairs of incised lines near where they join and black Bakelite handles, square in section, that align to form a continuous arc. Single, rounded cover with black, rounded-top, tapered circular knob fits both parts. Removable, wire-handled, perforated plunger inside reservoir keeps coffee grounds from floating into water. Bottom underside of coffeepot is stamped “de Luxe / ALUMINUM / WARE" in a bowed square outline above "A PRODUCT OF / WEST BEND ALUMINUM CO. / WEST BEND, WIS., U.S.A." and two U.S. design patent numbers.
