Eddie Arcaro
Object Details
- Description
- Button featuring jockey Eddie Arcaro.
- One of sport's rarest achievements is the U.S. Triple Crown, gained by placing first in all three of the country’s major thoroughbred horse races, the Kentucky Derby (Louisville, KY), Preakness Stakes (Baltimore, MD) and Belmont Stakes (Elmont, NY), in a single season. Only one jockey in history has had two Triple Crown years: George Edward “Eddie” Arcaro. The 5 ‘2 son of Italian immigrants, Arcaro first accomplished the feat aboard Whirlaway in 1941 and again upon Citation in 1948. Regarded as “The Master”, Arcaro also holds the record for most wins at Triple Crown competitions, having 17 victories in an 18-year career.
