- Description
- Landscape and architecture sketch showing a view of a fallen column of the Parthenon on the Acropolis of Athens, Greece. The foreground comprises a large portion of the scene, and includes a close view of several column drums, or cylindical blocks that make up the segments of an ancient stone column. Four fluted drums lie on the ground in a series from lower right to center, surrounded by tufts of grass that cover the ground. Other stones are visible at left and lower center. In the background, a hill, rendered in purple, forms a rounded horizon beneath a blue and open sky.
