- Description
- Landscape and architecture study showing a view of Berchtesgaden in present-day Germany and the dramatic alpine scenery that surrounds it. Roofs visibly extend from foreground at right into the middle distance at left and right. Walls of buildings are rendered only in graphite and unpainted. At left, a road leads to a Franciscan church and the town's courthouse. Nearby vegetation is loosely rendered at far left. In the background at right, the twin peaks of the Watzmann are backdropped by a billowing white cloud, while at left, the Schoenfeldspitze is visible in the far distance.
