- Educational Notes
- A tale as old as time, Beauty and the Beast was first published in 1740 as a French fairytale titled La Belle et la Bete. It has since been retold and reimagined dozens of times and in many different languages. Though the tale has gone through many revisions, the overall plot has stayed the same as well as the storys characters. Characters can be sorted into two different categories: static and dynamic. A static character stays the same and does not undergo changes from the beginning to the end of the story, whereas a dynamic character changes as a result of the plot. Beast is dynamic character because he undergoes many changes in his personality during the tale. When Belle first meets Beast, he is very indifferent towards her and other people. As the plot progresses, Beast gets to know Belle and warms up to her. He slowly changes over the course of the story to become more personable, or friendly.
