Barometer
Object Details
- Ernst
- Description
- On February 12, 1853, the Smithsonian paid M. Ernst in Paris $100 for four mercury barometers and metal tripods. This instrument, marked "Ernst, Rue de Lille, No. 11, à Paris (No 303)," is one of those barometers. The scale extends from 400 to 825 millimeters, and is read by vernier to tenths. There is a mercury-in-glass thermometer on the side of the tube. And there is a knob for adjusting the size of the cistern so that the barometer may be safely moved from one place to another.
