- Scope and Contents note
- Two carte-de-visite portraits taken by the London Stereoscopic Company. In one of the portraits, dated in pencil "August 1872", Stanley is shown in safari dress holding a rifle, with a small African boy (identified as Kalulu, also known as Ndugu M'Hali). The other portrait is a head and shoulders profile of Stanley, wearing spectacles, and is inscribed on the verso "To Lieut L.A. Dawson from Henry M. Stanley."
