- Millais wrote, "Glad to hear you are off on your travels in Africa. I hope you will have a real good time with all those wonderful beasts we have all read so much about." Millais describes his own recent trip to Norway and finishes with a sketch depicting Selous, with rifle, mounted on a mule, followed by a number of Africans dragging a dead buffalo and dead rhinoceros.
