- Scope and Contents note
- Ambrose in his accompanying criticism states "On reading the commencing pages of the manuscript I felt that here, indeed, was good material. The first 10 pages are excellent, well phrased and promising a book of quite exceptional merit. Thereafter, however, I grew more and more disappointed as the book proceeded, for although some of the situations are very well thought out and the author's knowledge of the terrain is never in doubt, the improbability of the whole set-up renders the story incredible and I fear not attractive to the modern reader."
