- Scope and Contents
- In 1970, Richard Rohrbaugh was one of six co-founders of the Gay Activists Alliance in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This series includes gay related periodicals from Philadelphia as well as Washington, D.C.. There are early issues of Washington's The Gay Blade. There is a copy of The Drummer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that published a photograph of the landmark "Gay, Proud, and Healthy" display at the American Psychiatric Association convention in May 1972. This series includes the landmark Time magazine with the cover story on Leonard Matlovich, a gay Vietnam veteran. There is a copy of another landmark publication, The Joy of Gay Sex, published in 1977, the gay community's answer to the heterosexual, The Joy of Sex. Rohrbaugh died in 2017 in Dunedin, Pinellas County, Florida.
- Collection Restrictions
- The collection is open for research use. Researchers must handle unprotected photographs with gloves. Researchers must use reference copies of audio-visual materials. When no reference copy exists, the Archives Center staff will produce reference copies on an "as needed" basis, as resources allow. Do not use original materials when available on reference video or audio tapes.
