Subseries Rights: When the Museum purchased the collection from the Estate of Robert S. Scurlock, it obtained all rights, including copyright. The earliest photographs in the collection are in the public domain because their term of copyright has expired. The Archives Center will control copyright and the use of the collection for reproduction purposes, which will be handled in accordance with its standard reproduction policy guidelines. Archives Center cost-recovery and use fees may apply when requesting reproductions.

Scope and Contents: The six negatives on this strip have been catalogued individually as AC0618.004.00000233 - AC0618.004.0000238.; A series of six negatives on one 35mm film strip depicting a civil disturbance which occurred around 9th Street and U Street in Washington, D.C. in 1968 after the death of Martin Luther King. Three of the pictures are street shots involving civilians, police and Army soldiers. The other three show fire fighters putting out a building fire. No ink on negative. "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM", "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "12A 13 13A 14 14A 15 15A 16 16A 17 17A 18" edge imprint.

Subseries Restrictions: Collection is open for research. Gloves must be worn when handling unprotected photographs and negatives. Special arrangements required to view negatives due to cold storage. Using negatives requires a three hour waiting period. Contact the Archives Center at 202-633-3270.
