- Scope and Contents
- John and Ann Fischer worked in Truk and neighboring islands in the East Caroline Islands from 1949-1953. During that time John acted as an Anthropological Field Consultant for the Civil Administration Unit, Truk District, for the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. The job involved visiting other small islands to familiarize himself with and monitor their populations and activities. His administrative reports are part of this file. In addition, the series contains field notes of both John and Ann. Often field notes of official activities are mixed with anthropological field notes. Some of Ann's field notes appear to have been updated with John's annotations during the 1970s. The series also contains papers by John, Ann, and others. Folders containing psychological tests of individuals have been restricted. More documents related to Truk can be found in Series I: Correspondence, Series III: Ponape, Series VI: Academic Work, Series VII: Photographs, and Series VIII: Microfilm, and Series IX: Sound Recordings.
