- THIS SPACE FOR CORRESPONDENCE; The Great Sphinx, Egypt.--This picture represents the[,] great Gizeh, or great Sphinx, being one of a group of[,] Sphinx that are supposed to be tombs and monuments of[,] the great kings of Egypt. This particular Sphinx is 188[,] feet in length, and is hewn out of a natural eminence in[,] the solid rock. Steps lead down to the front of this won-[,]derful monument, where are sanctuaries and tablets of[,] very ancient dates. At one time they were most imposing[,] monuments, but centuries of change have made a desert of[,] a once wonderful place, and the Sphinx are partly sub-[,]merged in sand.; FOR ADDRESS ONLY; POST CARD .
