- This photograph was taken by Dr. Simon Ottenberg while conducting field research at Afikpo village-group, southeastern Nigeria, from September 1959 to December 1960.
- Original caption reads, "Afikpo NCNC (National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons) Women's Branch marching the day that the famous Igbo nationalist politician Namdi Azikiwe visited Afikpo. NCNC is the major Igbo political party. Second group marching from Mgbom Village to Amuro Village square, women from both villages. A third women's group was from the Mkpoghoro subgroup of Afikpo."
