- This photograph was taken by Dr. Simon Ottenberg while he was conducting field research at Afikpo village-group, southeastern Nigeria, from September 1959 to December 1960.
- Original caption reads, "Vote for the second-class Afikpo chief at the Afikpo Native Court. Elders favoring Anthony Onye returning to court and being counted by the Assistant District Officer, Mr. Unaka, on way into the court. Unaka is Igbo, married to an African-American."
