Scope and Contents: Woman Plowing, Transkei, 1947. Original title by Constance Stuart Larrabee. Photographic image, from the rear, of a woman navigating a plow that is being pulled by several oxen. Beside the oxen is her son holding a stick with a rope connected to it. During this time, all over the Transkei region, women were at work in the fields because most young and fit men were away working at the mines. The son is helping but he will soon to work at the mines in Johannesburg. Photograph by Constance Stuart Larrabee, 1947.; In 1947, Constance Staurt Larrabee visited the Transkei. She was there researching the housing problems in Southern Africa.; There are two 8x10 black and white fiber-based prints of this negative in the Constance Stuart Larrabee Collection. EEPA also produced an 8x10 study print for reference purposes.
